Ultimatix in Linux - Challenge overcame

Warning -- this blog is for Techies only !!

Utimatix as we TCS guyz call it - "ULTA MATIX". It is a TCS intranet site which houses all the important applications. Yes, it is a unified platform for all the important activities beginining with project management to knowledge management. The security and the content is good, but bringing all the different solutions together to a single platform has actually messed up with its maintainence work.

The irony with Ultimatix is that it doesnt open with Firefox and opens only with M$ Internet Explorer. Not sure, if the Ultimatix team is a M$ Bhakth, but the problem was making my life horrible for quite some time. Thanks to Cross over office I was running Ultimatix on Linux (Linux recommends Firefox as the browser, the alternate browsers arent that powerful). Today I found another alternate in IE4Linux.

Installation is pretty smooth and it was done in 10 minutes flat (including the download of the files from internet on my 256 KBPS Connection). The technique is -

1. Download and Install Wine, if you still havent done it.(Wine is an open source project that allows the simulation of Windows based softwares on Linux)
The below site will offer you different flavours of Wine for different flavours of Linux !!
http://www.winehq.org/site/download

For people using Fedora core, can directly install Wine by -
yum install wine
It takes 5 minutes to download & install Wine.

2. Download CabExtract -
http://www.kyz.uklinux.net/cabextract.php
This is required to extract DLL files from the IE CAB Files.

Install the RPM or .tar.gz (whichever is appropriate for your Linux flavour)

3. Download the IE4Linux by issuing following commands in Terminal
wget http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/downloads/ies4linux-latest.tar.gz
tar zxvf ies4linux-latest.tar.gz

4. To run the IE4Linux, type
cd ies4linux-*
./ies4linux

Voila, Internet Explorer is opened.
Warning:Dont run the IE4Linux with Root priviledges on. You can damage your system(IE is vulnerable to all the deadly Viruses & Trojans in this world !)

I can use Ultimatix easily without even having to use Windows.

Note: Please see these legal notices before using IEs4Linux.

Hm, this is a useful post but personally, I was able to use Ultimatix just fine in Konqueror itself :)

Btw thanks for the comment on my site.
